Learn about the concepts and principles of Sustainable Development and Green Design in this new professional certificate program.
The objective of sustainability is to foster alignment between individuals and society, the economy, and the Earth's life-supporting ecosystems. This alignment represents a dynamic, balanced interaction between population and the environment. Establishing sustainability requires a fundamental shift in consciousness as well as in action.
In support of this, the Certificate in Sustainable Development and Green Design introduces the concepts and principles of sustainability through green building design, clean technologies, and innovative approaches to achieving the "triple bottom line" — economic, environmental and social sustainability. Participants explore the concept of sustainability within a historical context, the contemporary debates about what sustainability implies and how to achieve it. The curriculum addresses design and construction ranging from the micro- to the macro-environment as well as overarching subjects like economics and public policy.
Objectives
Upon completion of this Certificate, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the processes and practices of incorporating the economic, environmental and social issues into the planning, design and building of communities.
Who Can Benefit
The program should be of interest to and benefit land use planners and planning commissioners, architects, contractors and construction professionals, project and facility managers, government leaders, real estate professionals, engineers, interior designers, and consultants in related fields.
